The fund-raising program of the Royal College Past Teachers’ Association, which was disrupted due to the Covid Epidermic recommenced this year on the 7th July 2023, to collect funds for the medical fund to help our members during serious illnesses like cancer, bypass surgery, eye surgery etc.
The organizing committee headed by the General Secretary Mr. G.W. N Somaasiri and Mr. H.M.Dayaratne initially contacted several event organizers and selected a suitable play with the approval of the subcommittee appointed for the purpose. It was a play called “Sindukara Kavinaluwa” where several prominent stage artists took part. Our very own member Rathna Lalani Jayakody played a major role in the play. There was a school show and a public show as well. Tickets for the public show was priced at Rs. 5000/-, Rs. 3000/-, Rs. 2000/- and Rs. 1000/- The play was staged at the “Navarangahala” and we are thankful to the Principal, Mr. R.M.M Rathnayake for offering the Navarangahala to stage the play.
We are happy to say that nearly Rs. Three Million was the profit from this show. We are thankful to all the RCPTA members who worked hard to achieve this. This has been deposited in the Medical fund which will be immensely beneficial to our members during serious illnesses.
