163 members of the Royal College Past Teachers’ Association were listed to participate on the annual one-day tour on the 27th August 2023 at the Winsgreat Hotel in Piliyandala. Many others not in the list also came direct to the venue which caused a problem to the organizers.
As during the previous years, the old Royalists of the UAE, ORUAE offered to sponsor this tour for their teachers for the 11th time this year. This annual feature was disrupted for two years during the Covid epidermic and recommenced in 2022. We are grateful to the old Royalists of UAE for their generosity in sponsoring this tour for us. Mr. Prasanna Wanigasekara was the chief organizer on behalf of the ORUAE up to last year. We are sorry that he was unable to do so due to his wife’s illness. Instead, another member of the ORUAE Mr. Niroshan Wijethillake took over the challenge to organize the tour from that end. He directly contacted the owner of the Winsgreat Hotel Mr. Arjun Abeysinghe, another old Royalist who offered to have the function at a very concessionary rate at Winsgreat. Payment was made direct to him by the ORUAE. In addition, the ORUAE donated another Rs.200,000/- collected from their members to the Medical Fund of the RCPTA. This was wonderful gesture on their part. Thank you ORUAE and Mr. Arjuna Abeysinghe of Winsgreat.
It was an enjoyable day for our members. It started with a meeting where the President Mr.M. Dharmadasa detailed the activities of the RCPTA done so far for the current year and Mr. Ranjith Senanayake traced the history of the one-day tour where he highlighted on the generous role played by the ORUAE.
This was followed by lots of games for the members to participate, dancing and a sumptuous lunch laid out by the hotel. A former member of the ORUAE, now residing in Sri Lanka Mr. Deepal Rajaguru represented on behalf of the ORUAE, and the RCPTA presented a plaque to the ORUAE which was accepted by him.
