A Meritorious Deed of Great Significance

Mr. H. G. P. Dharmadasa, a senior member of the Royal College Past Teachers’ Association (RCPTA), has accomplished a noble and meritorious deed by constructing a statue of the Reclining Buddha at Hambantota, at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.6 million. This sacred monument was ceremoniously unveiled on 25th October 2026.

The daughter of the late Mr. G. V. M. Somakumara generously made a financial contribution towards the construction of the flower altar (Mal Asanaya) for the Buddha statue and the provision of a chair for Buddhist monks to deliver sermons.

Recognising the spiritual significance of this noble undertaking, several members of RCPTA who participated in the Annual One-Day Get-Together at Navro Beach Resort, Panadura, generously contributed a total of Rs. 11,000 towards the pinkama organised to mark the opening ceremony.

Mr. Dharmadasa regards this undertaking as a deed of immense religious merit, reflecting his deep devotion to the Buddha Sasana and his commitment to promoting Buddhist values.

The RCPTA family extends its heartfelt appreciation to Mr. Dharmadasa for this commendable initiative and to all members who contributed towards this meritorious occasion. May this noble act bring blessings, peace, and spiritual well-being to all those who participated in and supported this worthy endeavour.
