Annual health screening program 2026

The R.C.D.A.s annual health screening program was held on the 22 March 2026 for the 26th consecutive year. The program was led by Dr Ajith Tennakoon the President of the R.C.D.A. This was held for the benefit of the past teachers as well as the present teachers. On arrival, after the initial screening, teachers were led to a clinic where doctors, all old Royalists, examined them and directed them to specialized clinics according to their ailments. The entire middle school premises had been converted into a virtual hospital with specialized clinics led by senior doctors all old Royalists and their wives.

This year on our part Mr K.H.Amaradasa as the coordinator, with Mr Ravi Wirasinha and Mrs Sasima Pinidiya organized the event. We provided the doctors, breakfast

The program commenced with a meeting at the Navarangahala. The Present Principal Mr. Athula Wijewardana , Deputy Principals of Royal College and the Past Principals Mr. B. Suriarachchi and Mr. S.H. Kumarasinghe and Mr K.H. Amaradasa who was in charge of the Medical Camp and a number of our members were also present.

Dr. Ajith Tennakoon traced the history of the involvement of the R.C.D.A. of the medical camp during the past 25 years. There had been several cases where some teachers were diagnosed with ailments that they were unaware of and immediate action had been taken to remedy the situation. Clinics were conducted with regard to Heart Problems, Diabetes, Neurological diseases, Cancer, Dental, Eye camp, general medical Problems and also Psychiatric clinic to name a few.

President of the R.C.P.T.A. Mr. Ranjith Hemachandra also spoke. He thanked Dr. Ajith Tennakoon President R.C.D.A. and the all the doctors for a well organized program. He mentioned an incident where he came across a new grade 6 scholar from a rural area, who was distressed as he was homesick. Mr Hemachandra advised him to begin afresh in his new environment in Colombo and concentrate and focus in his studies, as he was now a student of the best school in the country. After several years the former teacher met his student as a DOCTOR. This Medical Camp is the first of its kind to be held by Past Pupils of any school for the benefit of their teachers.
