One Day Tour of RCPTA for the year 2024
One day tour of the RCPTA for 2024 was held on the 19th of December 2024. Normal scheduled date for the one-day tour is in August. But the date was postponed for a very valid reason. Our departed member, Mr. D Kothalwala’s son Mr. Anuradha Kothalawala was keen to sponsor an event for the past teachers of Royal College, in memory of his father on his birthday which fell on the 19th December. He was keen to sponsor the Annual General Meeting of the RCPTA for this. But according to the constitution of the RCPTA, AGM had to be held in November. Since the only event in the RCPTA calendar that was yet to be done was the one-day tour thankfully he agreed to sponsor it.
Next task was to find a place to have it. After a thorough search the we finally decided on this place called the Sapper’s Bay hotel run by the Maththegoda Army Camp. As the project in charge Mrs. Manel Munasinghe along with Mrs. Ramya Dharmawardana and Mr. Dayarathne who were in the subcommittee visited the place. Luck was on our side that day as Major General Kapila Dolage who was visiting the place was the former Major General in charge of this Army Camp. He being an old Royalist and also in the same batch as Mr. Anuradha Kothalawala agreed to give all the help to Anuradha in sponsoring the event. After that there was nothing much we had to do as all the arrangements regarding the whole outing was handled by these two gentlemen.
The day arrived we had 242 members participating in the event. After the initial meeting which was addressed by the President Mr. M.Dharmadasa, Mr. K. H Amaradasa gave a speech on the life spent by Mr. D. Kothalawala at Royal College where he brought out many instances which were hilarious as well as poignant about Mr. Kothalawala.
A vote of thanks was given by Mrs, Manel Munasinghe Project in charge and also, she didn’t forget to thank the Old Royalists of UAE who have been sponsoring this event for almost a decade.
