Community Service Project of the RCPTA for the year 2023
Over the past approximately seven years the RCPTA has donated water purifying equipment to almost seven schools in various parts of the country where there was an urgent need for pure clean water, as many people in those areas were suffering from kidney deceases.
This year due to the current financial situation in the country, and due to the shortage of paper for printing books, the cost of CR, Exercise books etc. have gone up in price. The RCPTA at a committee meeting discussed this problem which will be sure to affect the students of schools in rural areas. The present Principal of Royal College was also present at the committee meeting that day. It was decided to donate the necessary CR, exercise books etc. for the year 2023 for students in a rural school. The Principal also approved the decision.
The member of the RCPTA in charge of this project, Mrs. Kalyani Abeygunawardana with the help of some members of the Sri Lanka Airforce, selected two rural schools in the Polonnaruwa district where students are from underprivileged families. One school has 77 students, which is Galoya Kanista Vidyalaya, and the other school with 306 students which is Rotawewa Kanishta Vidyalaya. The requirement of books etc. with the relevant lists were sent by the Principals of the two schools.
Some members of the RCPTA with their spouses, will be leaving for this project on the 26th morning, and will be staying at an Army cap in Minneriya. 27th morning the participants will be visiting the schools.
All the things offered to the students are from donations received from the RCPTA members, their families and well-wishers. Those participating in the tour are financing themselves fully, and all the donations received above will only be used for the benefit of the students in the two schools. Royal College bus was offered for the tour, and the participants will be spending for the total cost of the fuel etc. on rfor the bus.
21st March 2023, many volunteers got together at Mrs. Ramya Dharmawardana’s place to pack the books, instrument boxes etc. in boxes marked for each class of the two schools. Thank you Ramya and the others who tirelessly helped in this strenuous task. Thank you, Kalyani for organizing this project meticulously.
